What is CPRD?

DennyP

Never mind- I found it in the story.

Jean

I mean, who doesn't like walking peacefully through a park next to a shooting range?

YamCoCan

Here it is again, acknowledgement that in April, Kit did say he would consider selling OUR public parks to a private buyer. In a parks meeting, heard by several people. But Caralee will be along shortly to claim otherwise. Taking a page from the Michael Firestone playbook, she will expect us to believe her over our own lying-eyes and ears.

Lulu

I'm just surprised Kit awoke long enough to say anything.

Caralee

I was present at the April Parks Board meeting. Here is a link to the minutes, it shows who was present and what was discussed, https://www.co.yamhill.or.us/sites/default/files/2023-04-26_Board_Minutes.pdf. As I am unsure of who YamCoCan is, I cannot attest as to whether or not that person was present at that meeting. My comment on the other Crabtree Park article was simply stating corrections and factual information that can be looked up using the links I provided for those interested in doing so. Parks Board meetings are in the evenings after daytime working hours and open to the public.

I have written to all three of the commissioners - I live off of Worden Hill Rd and this historic park is THE park in the county my husband and I frequent regularly (2-3x per week). LB wrote back and said the initial culvert repair quote they received was 300k... the life of a culvert design is approx. 30-70 years.
This BOC needs to think long term about the good of county residents, i.e. maintaining park spaces, for decades to come. Kit's flippant remark about selling it shows a lack of respect for public spaces.

Charlie

Maybe we should dump these commissioners and start afresh! They don't seem to pay much attention to us!

Culbert

There is one inaccuracy in this article. The gun club property is not part of Crabtree Park, it is adjacent to it on it's south side. Also, for those who support public parks, rather than just criticize individuals (Lulu, Charlie) or make unsubstantiated assumptions (YamCoCan), what would help matters is what CJW has done - write to the BOC indicating that you support retaining, and improving, our public parks. Note that there are costs involved in all four options suggested in the above article, which come from tax dollars provided by us, the tax payers, one way or another. The Parks Board will take up this Crabtree discussion once again on July 19th, and our recommendation may very well depend on who can or will cover the costs for the needed culvert replacement.

YamCoCan

Culbert, please consider avoiding your own assumptions that others are not advocating for protection just because they didn't say so.

Evidence based conclusions are not equivalent to uninformed assumptions. Did you note that my prediction was immediately fulfilled?

Costs of maintenance and even improvements should be anticipated for a body that cares about parks, don't you agree? And responsible leaders would budget accordingly so that a relatively minor issue wouldn't result in the consideration of such extreme measures (i.e. transferring public lands to private).

The banner of fiscal restraint is eventually going to cost US a lot of money when major improvements are necessary, rather than minor maintenance. It makes it almost reasonable to consider that they've let facilities fall into such desperate levels of disrepair so they could justify selling them, reducing public recreation options and actual health outcomes in our community. I sure hope it's just incompetence and not intentional harm.
