Berry wins re-election as district attorney
Yamhill County District Attorney Brad Berry won re-election over Deputy District Attorney Alicia Eagan Tuesday.
In final unofficial returns, Berry received 15,816 votes, or 70.4 percent, to Eagan's 6,659 votes, or 29.6 percent.
The incumbent served as a defense attorney in Newberg before being elected district attorney in a three-way race in 1996, turning back McMinnville attorneys Al Hansen and Mark Lawrence. He has been re-elected without opposition four consecutive times since.
He sought appointment to the circuit court bench following the December 2008 death of Judge Carol Jones. However, the seat was won by Cynthia Easterday, who was serving as one of his deputies at the time.
Eagan has served as one of Berry’s deputies for 16 years. Prior to that, she served as a chief clerk with the Oregon Court of Appeals.
In the runup to election night, Eagan said she felt the election process serves as a performance review, and every elected candidate should undergo one. In large measure, that motivated her to run.
