Dayton's Face in the Crowd

Yamhill County residents will find a familiar face on page 26 of the March 14 edition of Sports Illustrated.
Dayton sophomore Shawnie Spink was one of SI’s six Faces in the Crowd for her accomplishments during the OSAA Class 3A Girls Basketball State Tournament March 5-7. Spink recorded a triple double (12 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists) during the Pirates’ 56-42 victory over Amity in the 3A state championship game.
Spink, who earned Class 3A West Valley League co-player of the year honors this season, was nominated for the award by Dayton girls basketball assistant coach Matt West.
Faces in the Crowd, a Sports Illustrated featurette first conceived in 1956, highlights outstanding accomplishments of high school, college, masters and other amateur athletes and coaches from across the nation.
