Bob
Given the budget crunch the city was facing in 2013, its fledging urban renewal district could afford maybe one major “test” project - which was supposed to be 3rd street. But somehow it seems that our past mayor, our past city manager, AND our current planning director seem to have found a way to hijack millions of dollars of current and future urban renewal funds to the black hole project on Alpine - which the affordable housing portion of WONT generate a dime of urban renewal funds to 3rd. At this point the city is dumping probably $400,000 per year in interest only payments, utility fees, and staff planning time - without a rational, fiscally reasonable plan in site.
Isn’t it time for the current city manager, mayor, and city council to pull the urban renewal plug on Alpine. Then reallocate planning staff and urban renewal funds to attempting to get their 2013 3rd street renovation project done in the next few years.- before ten more years and twenty million more dollars are wasted.
