Wildcat Open tournament is Aug. 5
Linfield College will host the 2016 Wildcat Open golf tournament at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha on Friday, Aug. 5. The four-person scramble tournament is the year’s largest fundraiser for Wildcat athletic programs. Registration is $200 and includes greens fees, lunch, drinks, dinner, range balls, motorized carts, prizes and more. Register online at linfieldsports.universitytickets.com.
Special Olympics set in Newberg
Special Olympics Oregon will hold its annual summer state games July 9 and 10 at Newberg High School.
More than 2,000 athletes from around the state will compete in track, bocce ball and softball. The opening ceremonies start at 7:30 p.m., following a pre-show set for 6:30.
Participants completed eight weeks of training and qualified for state competition at the regional level.

SYL Foundation holds soccer camp
The See Ya Later Foundation will be holding its SYL soccer camp for children in grades 1-5 July 22-23 at Joe Dancer Park, 1450 S.E. Brooks St., McMinnville.
Cost of participation is $20, with scholarships available; enrollment is limited to the first 125 children signed up. Sessions take plance from 9 a.m. to noon for first- and second-graders and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for third- through fifth-graders.

Linfield soccer holds skills camp
The Linfield men’s and women’s soccer programs are hosting a coed soccer camp August 15-18 at the Linfield Soccer Field.
Girls and boys in grades 1-8 will receive instruction from current Linfield coaches and players. Drills and competitive games will be used to develop campers’ skills.
Sessions are from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day. Campers are encouraged to wear cleats or tennis shoes, T-shirts, shorts and shin guards and bring water.
Cost of participation is $75, and registration will be prior to and on the first day of camp.

McMinnville Turkey Trot is July 9
McMinnville’s 31st Annual Turkey Trot, which includes an 8K Run and a 5K Run/Walk, will commence on Saturday, July 9 from 8-11 a.m. at McMinnville’s Upper City Park, near the tennis courts, and will conclude at the end of Park Drive, which is the road by the Aquatic Center. Registration is available now at getmeregistered.com (search for Turkey Rama Turkey Trot), and those who register before July 1 will receive a t-shirt. Registration is also available on the day of the race, beginning at 7 a.m. at the start of the race. The admission fees for the race are $25 for both the runners and walkers, with proceeds benefitting the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation and the McMinnville Area Chamber of Commerce. This year’s run will allow the formation of teams of a minimum 10 participants, with a $3 discount provided to team members. Mac Open tennis tourney is July 8-10
The McMinnville Boys Tennis Team will be accepting registration for the Mac Open tennis tournament to be held at Cowls Street Courts July 8-10. The events scheduled are men’s and women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.Registration forms are available at the Community Center, at Mac Sports at 438 NE Third Street, or online at www.oregontennis.net. The cost is $15 for singles, $10 per person for doubles.

Linfield Wildcats skills camp is Aug. 15
Linfield College’s women’s basketball team is holding a basketball camp for girls in grades 2-10 on August 15-17. The event is held at Ted Wilson Gymnasium at Linfield College. Second through sixth grades will run 9 a.m.-noon; Seventh through 10th grades will run 1-4 p.m. The camp will improve fundamentals through skill development, position break down, and competitive games. T-shirts and prizes will be awarded.

Mac High offers free sports physicals
Free sports physicals will be given at McMinnville High School on Wednesday, August 3rd at 6:00 p.m. in conjunction with Impact concussion testing.
OSAA and MHS require a sports physical before any athlete is able to try out or participate in any athletic activity. All incoming freshmen are required to have a new physical after July 1, 2016.
These physicals are for any MHS athlete who is considering participating in any sport during the school year. For questions, please call the athletic office at 503-565-4206.
