Carlton fire destroys garage

CARLTON - A garage attached to the back of a house was destroyed, but firefighters saved the residence Thursday when a blaze broke out in the area of West Grant and South Scott streets, according to the Carlton Fire District.

Firefighters answered the call about 6 p.m. It initially was reported as a fence and small grass fire, spokesperson Darci Ancalade said. Upon arrival, Carlton Fire Chief Terry Lucich reported that a garage attached to a house was fully involved.

The fire was knocked down within five minutes of the first crew arriving. It was determined the fire had not spread to the home that was unoccupied at the time.

The cause is undetermined. The McMinnville Fire Department, Yamhill Fire District, Carlton and Yamhill police departments also assisted.
