Weekend heat wave expected

Temperatures are expected to return to the 90s over the weekend, before dropping back into the 80s next week.

The National Weather Service said Saturday could bring temperatures in the mid to high 90s, easing slightly Sunday, but remaining in the 90s. Overnight temperatures are likely to remain above normal as well, forecasters said.

The agency warned people not to leave children or pets in vehicles, because even with windows left partially opened, the interior temperatures climb rapidly. Pickup beds also are dangerous for pets, as the metal both holds and reflects heat.

Pets and livestock require access to shade and fresh water at all times.

The warning also noted, “This hot spell will bring drier air than the previous hot periods this summer. Be sure to completely stamp out campfires and avoid any unnecessary burning.”
