The swatting didn't help, so he took up the belt. Maybe next time he will take up a bat, or a fist. This guy needs to go in for anger management. Mom needs to find her way out of this relationship. Son needs professional help.

@Coco, my thoughts exactly. I wish we had an idea how old the boy is. If he's older than about 10 or 11 it's going to be really difficult for him to unlearn rage and violence as problem solving in relationships. The dad can say he wasn't angry, but no one threatens to break a kid's arm, drags him, throws him, lets him fall (or drags him again, that's unclear) so he hits his head on a brick, kneels on his body, and whips him with a belt 25 times in a calm and rational manner. All of these people need help, and dad needs to stay away from his son until he gets it.

Lulu

The article stated the boy's age as 12. Here again, we have a mother and son with a live-in guy who doesn't care about the boy, which he amply demonstrated. The mother is equally at fault; she let this happen...and for what?

Gosh, I feel for this kid. I also feel bad for cops. How would you like to have to be called in to deal with stuff like this all day every day? I also agree with Coco, every member of that family needs help.

I agree with an occasional spanking, but 25 with a belt is a bit excessive!!

It's criminal assault. Spanking works all right....it works to make an angry, self-hating, unconfident, timid, frightened and internally damaged person. That's all is does. So, if you want to destroy a person...beat them as a kid.

Mudstump, as usual, I disagree with you. I was spanked as a child (not often and not nearly 25 times), but I would think most would say I came out undamaged. Just sayin.

No often and not nearly 25 times....well, there you go. There is a big difference between an occasional swat on the butt and being hit with a belt that leaves welts on a child's body. When a parent is this violent with a child it destroys them inside. They will most likely work their entire life to overcome the trauma just to maintain a normal life. This article isn't about a slap on the hand.
