Shooting leaves one injured

A 20-year-old Latino man was shot in the leg about 10:45 p.m. Monday night on Second Street.

McMinnville police said the victim, whom they declined to immediately identify, was transported by McMinnville Fire Department ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center.

An officer drove up on the scene, near Second Street's intersection with Fenton, in the immediate aftermath, according to Capt. Dennis Marks. Witnesses told him a man had fired on the victim multiple times, then run north on Fenton, lying just west of Newby Elementary School.

Marks said the shooting did not appear to be random. He declined to say whether gang affiliations might have played a part.

With assistance from units from the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and Oregon State Police, McMinnville officers served a warrant early Thursday at a residence on Southwest Darcy Drive. Marks said they were seeking a suspect as well as additional evidence.

"It sounds like the person they were looking for is out of the area," Marks said. "The U.S. marshals are trying to help us locate him."

He added, "We're still looking for evidence." He said that would help them establish a motive and sort out the chain of events.
