A McMinnville man who allegedly caused a disturbance Monday afternoon at a downtown convenience store had to be tased in order to be removed from a vehicle prior to being taken into custody.

McMinnville police identified the suspect as Richard Hewitt McDaniel, 27. Police have had repeated previous contact with him, they said.

McDaniel was in violation of his probation and lodged in the Yamhill County Jail without bail. Charges are pending related to the incident. Police gave this account:

About 5:30 p.m, officers responded to a report of a male causing a disturbance at the Circle K store, 840 N .E. Third St. The individual had earlier been escorted out of the Deluxe Tavern, about a block west of the store.

When officers arrived in the area, they located McDaniel in a parked vehicle on Third Street near its intersection with Irvine Street. He did not own the vehicle or know the registered owner.

When officers were unable to talk McDaniel out of the vehicle, he was tased through the open passenger side window, removed and taken into custody.
