Mac volleyball rolls over North Salem

McMinnville volleyball continued its winning ways Thursday night in The Furnace, knocking off North Salem, 25-17, 25-17, 25-13, and improving the Grizzlies' standing in the Class 6A Greater Valley Conference.

The Grizzlies (12-3, 8-2 GVC) are in third place in the conference standings behind West Albany (14-4, 11-0 GVC) and McNary (13-4, 9-2 GVC); both schools hold a tie-breaker against McMinnville. 

Taylor Petersen led the Grizzlies with 15 kills and nine digs, and Montanna Gubrud had 29 assists for McMinnville. Coach Jen Gubrud complimented Petersen (.667 kill percentage) and Madison Vicknair (11 kills, .430 hitting percentage) on their efficiency against the Vikings (4-13, 0-11 GVC).

McMinnville travels to Albany Wednesday night for a tri-match with South Salem and West Albany. The Grizzlies begin play against the Saxons at 5:15 p.m.

Willamina 3, Sheridan 0

WILLAMINA – The Bulldogs finished off a two-match sweep of the rival Spartans, 25-19, 25-19, 25-14, in Thursday’s Class 3A West Valley League match.

Willamina (7-7, 6-3 WVL) hosted Amity on Monday night and plays at Dayton Wednesday night at 6 p.m. Sheridan (4-8, 3-6 WVL) played at Dayton on Monday night and hosts Horizon Christian Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

 

Dayton 3, Taft 0

DAYTON – The Pirates knocked off the Tigers in Class 3A West Valley League play, 25-22, 25-14, 25-16, on Thursday night.

Dayton (9-3, 6-3 WVL) hosted Sheridan on Monday. The Pirates host Willamina Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

 

Delphian 3, City Christian 2

PORTLAND – The Dragons managed to hold on to defeat the Lions, 25-17, 25-17, 27-29, 20-25, 15-11, in Class 2A Northwest League play Thursday night.

Delphian (10-9, 4-3 Northwest) participated in the Country Christian Cougar Classic tournament on Saturday night. The Dragons defeated Nestucca and lost to Country Christian in bracket play.

Delphian hosts Vernonia tonight at 7 p.m.

 

Perrydale 3, Santiam 0

MILL CITY – The Pirates swept the Wolverines, 26-24, 25-14, 25-13, in Thursday’s Class 2A Tri-River Conference game.

Perrydale (11-4, 5-3 Tri-River) hosted Kennedy on Monday. The Pirates play at Western Mennonite Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

 

Kennedy 3, Western Mennonite 1

LINCOLN – The Lady Pioneers were edged out by the Trojans, 25-17, 25-23, 18-25, 25-15, in Thursday’s Class 2A Tri-River Conference game.

Western Mennonite (8-7, 3-5 Tri-River) played at Regis on Monday. The Lady Pioneers host Perrydale Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
