Local students graduate from online school

Ten Yamhill County students graduated this month from the Oregon Connections Academy.

The Class of 2016 included about 380 students. Most received their diplomas during a ceremony held on the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem.

Yamhill County graduates are:

Tristian Hendricks, Kyle Kemp, Morgan McFarland and James Noteboom of McMinnville, Mathew Curteman of Willamina, Kylee Kinkle of Sheridan, Abigail Wheelon of Lafayette and Corina Hall, Gabriel Hornback and Cally Stahlnecker of Newberg.

The class is expected to receive about $700,000 in college scholarships.

About 57 percent plan to go on to higher education. Many of those have already earned college credits through the College Credit Now program.

About a third plan to enter the job market. Others aim to join the military or pursue vocational programs.
