Need a great gift for Mother’s Day?

The McMinnville High School girls basketball program is selling hanging flower baskets from Al’s Garden Saturday, May 7, to raise funds for the Grizzlies’ 2016-17 season.

The hanging baskets come in $25 and $35 varieties and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The sale begins at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of First Federal Savings & Loan, 118 N.E. 3rd Street, McMinnville.

Also, Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 8. For those who need to know.

 

Valley Panthers Rugby beats Eagles

The McMinnville-based Valley Panthers Rugby Club defeated Centennial, 85-5, in a Rugby Oregon Girls Varsity Premiership Match April 23 at Delta Park in Portland.

The Valley Panthers, which are 3-0 in Premiership play, continue their season Saturday at 10 a.m. at Canby. The game will be played at Canby High School.

 

Mac grad Oliver wins weekly award

Humboldt State University thrower and McMinnville High School graduate Ariel Oliver was named Female Track & Field Athlete of the Week by the California Collegiate Athletic Association for the week ending April 25.

Oliver, a junior who transferred to HSU from San Diego State, won the women’s shot put (45 feet, 6 ½ inches) and discus throw (149-4) at the Southern Oregon Raider Invite, held in Ashland April 23.

 

Run the Dutch 5K coming June 4

Heiser’s Pumpkin Farm will play host to the second annual Run the Dutch 5K on Saturday, June 4 at 9:30 a.m.

Sponsored by Dutch Bros. Coffee and Heidi Moore of Country Financial, Run the Dutch will include caffeine stops as well as an afterparty comprised of music, coffee, local beer, and plenty of food. Interested runners can register early online or on the day of the race at 8:30 a.m. A $25 fee gets you a place in the race, a T-shirt, and inclusion into the afterparty at Heisers Farm located at 21425 SE Grand Island Loop in Dayton. Proceeds from the race are used to support the See Ya Later foundation camps and other local youth activity organizations.

Linfield hosts basketball camp

Linfield College’s third annual basketball camp for boys and girls in grades 2-6 is scheduled to take place over three separate periods this summer at Duniway Middle School, 575 N.W. Michelbook Lane, McMinnville.

Camps will be held June 27-30, July 18-21, and August 8-11; sessions will occur from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Cost is $75 per session. Space is limited, and potential attendees are encouraged to sign up early. Contact Coach Rosenberg at 503-883-2529 or coachrose@linfield.edu for registration.
