Christmas has Talons

Great job Heidi Parker for staying on this on A.I.M. it looks like we are seeing something get done thanks for staying on this.

Lulu

What difference does this January event make when it takes seven months to arrive at the actual number? Perhaps YCAP might attempt to "engage in meaningful ways" with the general public.

tagup

It’s important information Lulu.....even if they don’t get it to you on your schedule....

gregtompkins

West Coast Sanctuary Laws working out great, huh? Just ask San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle too how well their progressive stances toward the illegals and the homeless are working out? This situation makes me so sad. Get with the building, loosen up land use laws, hire far more mental health and addiction professionals, get folks to work and quit pandering to the illegals and take care of our own RIGHT NOW or get out of office Democrats !

tagup

C’mon Greg...”get people to work”?....are you kidding?....have you seen employment numbers lately?....even with the shortage of labor, most employers are not willing to take on the burden of hiring employees with mental health/ addiction issues.....you could build all the housing you want, but a large segment of the homeless group will never utilize the opportunity.....your sweeping generalizations show your lack of understanding of the issues...

gregtompkins

tagup you accuse me of lack of understanding of the issues and overgeneralization and then make a couple of whoppers yourself that mentally ill cannot be employed and that homeless people would refuse to live in a structure? If this liberal state was as impassioned about the plight of the homeless and the mentally ill as they are about the illegals....

tagup

.what do you suggest, that business be forced to hire unqualified or unwilling workers?.....statements like “get folks to work” is overlooking the many employment roadblocks that the homeless/mentally ill/ addicted population face......is the “liberal state” supposed to hire them?......

Lulu

One, two, three, four, five...dang, I'm tired. Time for a break.
Not acceptable.

gregtompkins

@ tagup not that either but more structured work options and employment specialists to deal with this population. We have structured workshops for “DD” community why not something similar? We heap so much compassion on the illegals , decry ICE and yet let mentally ill United States citizens sleep in tents all up and down the west coast. I’m hoping after this impeachment fiasco winds down that Trump declares an emergency and royally cracks down on sanctuary law and the west coast homeless problem.

tagup

“ more structured work options “..?....what does that even mean?......Employment specialists can’t help drug addition, mental health or force an individual to work, or a business to hire them. The reality is that employers are not going to keep people that are not productive. You seem to co mingle the homeless population with undocumented immigrants.....not clear that those groups share the same issues, but there is plenty of compassion for both.......

gregtompkins

@tagup the illegal alien population is straining resources and causing United States Citizens to be homeless. And the drug trafficking that many (not all) these illegal aliens are doing are addicting the (most often time white United States citizens) to the drugs they bring. Illegal immigration should be outlawed but for some reason the screaming compassionate liberals decrying ICE for “locking children in cages” don’t seem to even care about degradation of our natural environment, feces and needles on the sidewalks, and tents in downtown streets in liberal sanctuary law Meccas. The west coast is turning into third world like conditions thanks to deep blue stupidity.

tagup

Interesting that you see the illegal immigration problem as “deep blue stupidity” when republicans also have done little to pass visa legislation that would allow business to have the labor it needs to grow. Even your president has used illegals in his hotels for decades.

gregtompkins

tagup this notion that business “needs” illegals is total bogus. Just as bogus as Intel needs to bring in H1Bs from India to work much more cheaply than US citizens. I would go after this illegal immigration situation a number of ways : 1 build a wall and other zero tolerance 2 criminal penalties for employers who hire illegals (make them forfeit their companies if they hire illegals) and 3 outlaw renting to the illegals. Those three simple steps would free up tons of resources for our own citizens to be housed and to have employment.

tagup

So at the moment a low estimate of the # of undocumented aliens is let’s say 10 million (most estimates are higher). Let’s say 50% are employed( also very conservative).....you advocate removing 5 million workers in the US?....and replacing them with whom?.....you see no impact on the economy if that were to happen?
the loss of workers would severely damage and likely close thousands of companies.... and also remove the buying power of those wages on related business that don’t even actually employ the workers. Your suggestion would create an economic disaster.
Your idea would completely derail the economy.....that’s why it will never happen.....the wall?....it’s effect is a pipe dream as long as there are jobs available in the US, which there are currently and have been for decades.....Do some homework and set aside your fear of those you don’t understand...

gregtompkins

tagup it’s not fear to expect people follow laws is it? Why do the liberals fear monger and say the president committed crimes but don’t seem to take issue with (in your estimation) 10 million illegal aliens here who broke the law? It should be like Canada you must get a job before showing up at the border and be issued a temporary work permit and pay big bucks for the fees. Enough of this illegal alien stuff, the freebies and the illegal aliens otherwise totally gaming the system to our own detriment.

tagup

The fear part is that you believe the undocumented population are all criminals and drug dealers and don’t contribute to the community and economy( and are the reason for our homeless problems). In my experience, the majority are working people, many have families doing jobs and paying taxes and buying goods and services. The US has a broken immigration system that leaves many of these people no other option than to stay under the radar. A large percentage have been here for decades working in a variety of segments of the economy. Most would love to have legal status and would come forward to register as many did in 1987. A realistic guest worker program with the ability for business to verify identity would solve the problem way better than a wall, but congress can’t seem to stop bickering long enough to address the real issues and recognize that the undocumented community (and immigrants in general) are necessary for the country to grow.

gregtompkins

tagup I never once said all illegal aliens are drug dealers. But breaking the law makes one a criminal does it not? I’m sure most illegal aliens are otherwise good people but they’re not good enough to balance out the really bad ones , like Al Qeada that snuck into Arizona and shot up a military base in Florida. So keep believing your liberal propaganda that all people who illegally entered are upstanding people. They aren’t. We shouldn’t be handing out welfare to anyone here who chose to come in illegally either.

tagup

I didn’t say they were all good people....but given the options and circumstances in their home countries, many had little choice but to come to the US. I suspect if you had been in the same situation, you and your family would have made the same decision to leave.
I see you chose not to respond to the economic impact of your previous suggestions or that business “doesn’t need” immigration.....interesting.

Lulu

I'd would choose New Zealand over the United States or any Scandinavian country, for that matter.

gregtompkins

tagup I am glad that our president touched on this subject of the illegal aliens scamming our generous safety nets issue during the State of the Union. He would have a heyday if he decides to crack down in Oregon! They made it totally illegal to even verify anything when applying for welfare in this state. I’m surprised people don’t capitalize on this and sign up for bogus gender neutral hyphenated last names!
