New heat wave is on the way
The forecast calls for highs in the mid- to high-80s through Wednesday, rising to 100 or more Thursday, Friday and possibly Saturday. The National Weather Service says there will be no measure of meaningful relief until Sunday.
Anytime the thermometer moves past 70, children and pets should not be left in cars for even short periods of time, as interior temperatures are capable of rapidly rising to dangerous levels. Nor should pets be left in hot metal pickup beds, exercised in the heat of the day or denied access to shade and water, as they are prone to suffering heatstroke and paw burns.
Nighttime temperatures are expected to fall into the mid-50s to mid-60s.
