SYL Foundation holds soccer camp

The See Ya Later Foundation will be holding its SYL soccer camp for children in grades 1-5 July 22-23 at Joe Dancer Park, 1450 S.E. Brooks St., McMinnville.

Cost of participation is $20, with scholarships available; enrollment is limited to the first 125 children signed up. Sessions take plance from 9 a.m. to noon for first- and second-graders and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for third- through fifth-graders.

Linfield soccer holds skills camp

The Linfield men’s and women’s soccer programs are hosting a coed soccer camp August 15-18 at the Linfield Soccer Field.

Girls and boys in grades 1-8 will receive instruction from current Linfield coaches and players. Drills and competitive games will be used to develop campers’ skills.

Sessions are from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day. Campers are encouraged to wear cleats or tennis shoes, T-shirts, shorts and shin guards and bring water.

Cost of participation is $75, and registration will be prior to and on the first day of camp.

Correction: Mac High sports physicals $20

Sports physicals will be given at McMinnville High School on Wednesday, August 3rd at 6:00 p.m. in conjunction with Impact concussion testing.

OSAA and MHS require a sports physical before any athlete is able to try out or participate in any athletic activity.  All incoming freshmen are required to have a new physical after July 1, 2016.

These physicals are for any MHS athlete who is considering participating in any sport during the school year.  For questions, please call the athletic office at 503-565-4206.

 

Linfield Wildcats skills camp is Aug. 15

Linfield College’s women’s basketball team is holding a basketball camp for girls in grades 2-10 on August 15-17. The event is held at Ted Wilson Gymnasium at Linfield College. Second through sixth grades will run 9 a.m.-noon; Seventh through 10th grades will run 1-4 p.m. The camp will improve fundamentals through skill development, position break down, and competitive games. T-shirts and prizes will be awarded.

Wildcat Open tournament is Aug. 5

Linfield College will host the 2016 Wildcat Open golf tournament at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha on Friday, Aug. 5. The four-person scramble tournament is the year’s largest fundraiser for Wildcat athletic programs. Registration is $200 and includes greens fees, lunch, drinks, dinner, range balls, motorized carts, prizes and more. Register online at linfieldsports.universitytickets.com.

 

All-Skills Volleyball Camp

McMinnville High School Volleyball will be hosting a youth all-skills camp on August first, second and third at the Red Gym of McMinnville High School. Grades 4-8 are welcome for the camp, with 4-6 grades starting at 11 a.m. to 12:30 pm. and 7-8 grades starting at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  The cost is $30 for 4-6 grades and $40 for 7-8 grades.

The mission of the camp is to get athletes involved in volleyball, improve skill levels and have fun. All aspects of the game will be covered at this camp with emphasis on fundamentals of the game. Camp leaders will be working on individual skills as well as group drills. Drills will progress at the pace of the athlete and will lead into game-like situations. Players of all levels are welcome.

Campers should bring a water bottle, knee pads and wear appropriate footwear to help prevent injuries. Eating a healthy breakfast is also advised.

McMinnville Grizzly Fastpitch to hold tryouts — all invited

The McMinnville Grizzly ASA Softball organization is looking for girls ages 8-18 who are hardworking, committed and passionate about playing softball.

Tryouts are officially set for July 25th-28th. There will be four different sessions starting with Monday the 25th’s 10U Free Camp from 5:30-8 p.m. Tryouts for the 10U group will be on Tuesday the 26th, 5-6 p.m. for pitchers/catchers and 6-8 p.m. for all positions. On Wednesday the 27th, the 12U group will hold pitchers/catchers tryouts from 5-6 p.m. and all other positions from 6-8 p.m. The 14U and 16U groups will hold their tryouts on Thursday the 28th, 5-6 p.m. for the pitchers and catchers and 6-8 p.m. for all positions.

All tryouts will be held at the McMinnville High School varsity softball field located at NE 15th St. and Evans St. Check-in is at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled tryout time. For more information contact Grizzly ASA President Ben Sullivan at 971-241-7475
