Tree takes down lines, power out in NW McMinnville

(UPDATED: 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9)

----

A large tree fell across Wallace Road in McMinnville just before noon Wednesday, taking power lines down with it and leaving about 200 customers without power.

Scott Rosenbalm of McMinnville Water & Light said initially said the utility hoped to have power returned to users in about three hours, but that they still have to survey the damage to the poles and wires once crews finish removing the tree.Later, he estimated power would be restored to customers about 6 p.m.

Neighbors said they heard a loud crash and some saw a bright flash of light.

Power also went  out at nearby Duniway Middle School. Classes continued with the use of an emergency generator.

All afternoon and evening activities at Duniway were cancelled. The winter concert was postponed and will be rescheduled, district officials said.

DMS wrestlers went to an afternoon meet at another school.
