Large grant will improve Amity's water system

AMITY - The Oregon Business Development Department has awarded a $2,129,242 Community Development Block Grant to the city of Amity for necessary improvements to the city water system.

Improvements include the water intake system, water treatment plant and the control/piping at the city reservoir.

"We are very excited about this grant because these improvements are crucial to the city's ability to continue to deliver high quality water to the residents of the city," Mayor Michael Cape said.

Amity's recently completed water master plan lists $8 million in needed improvements to the city's water system.

"This project addresses the highest priorities in those needs," Cape said.

The city expects to contract for final design and engineering within the next three months. Construction would begin as early as late next summer.

During the past five years, the city has received a total of $5.8 million in grant funds for improvements to City Park, roads, sewer system, sidewalks and the water system.
