Police have charged 19-year-old Erik Duran of McMinnville in connection with the Monday, Aug. 3 gang-related shooting of a McMinnville resident in the area of Northwest Second and Fenton streets.

Duran is charged with one count each of attempt to commit murder and first-degree assault, both Class A felonies, in addition to one count of unlawful use of a weapon, a Class C felony, according to court records. He is lodged in the Yamhill County Jail on $250,000 bail, pending circuit court arraignment.

The U.S. Marshals located Duran in Vancouver, Washington, and took him into custody on a warrant for first-degree assault. He was initially lodged in the Clark County Jail in Vancouver before being turned over to McMinnville police.

The victim, 20-year-old Nelson Alfaro, sustained a leg wound and was transported by McMinnville Fire Department ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Alfaro, a known Norteno gang affiliate, and Duran, a known Sureno gang member, were involved in an ongoing feud, according to an arrest warrant affidavit written by Sgt. Scott Fessler.

Seven 9 mm spent casings were found on the west sidewalk of Fenton Street, and a black handgun was located near the victim.

See Tuesday's print edition for additional details.

What knotheads. Norteno-Sureno: more like stupido.

I wonder if he passed his background check for that gun.

listen*up

now for a public beating,10 years in prison HARD LABOR and then throw him back across the river,no tolerance for gang skanks!

Rotwang: Being as he is under 21, and it is illegal for him to buy a handgun in the first place, there is no way he would have gotten to the point of having a background check done......

We both know that criminals will always be able to circumvent any firearms laws.

But I know where you are coming from...

If I were a gang member, why would I be living in Yamhill County, Oregon? It makes no sense. Relocate to the major cities, idiots.
