Hikers raise money for Homeward Bound Pets

Nearly 90 hikers -- and many dogs -- walked wooded trails during the Timberland Trek 4 Tails, Saturday's fundraiser for Homeward Bound Pets.
Property owners Dale and Jenny Thornton offered their land west of Carlton for the event. They like to support charitable events, they said.
Besides, Jenny Thornton said, she wanted dogs to have a nice place to walk -- somewhere they didn't have to walk on hot asphalt. Her family's own four dogs -- two dobermans, a golden retriever and a great dane -- enjoy walking on cool, soft trails in the woods.
"These trails are dog-approved," joked Dale Thornton.
In addition to trails of several distances and difficulties, the Trek included music by Jamie Corff and Val Blaha of Luminous Heart, lunch, a silent auction and other activities.
