Carlton pool shooting for weekend opening

CARLTON — The county’s only outdoor municipal swimming pool will open Saturday, assuming its new bathhouse passes final inspections this week.

City Manager Chad Olsen said inspectors from the Oregon Health Department will examine it on Wednesday and the Yamhill County Building Department on Thursday.

The city was originally hoping for a July 5 opening, about two weeks later than usual. However, work could not be completed in time.

“The city is cautiously optimistic that final occupancy permits will be issued late this week,” Olsen said. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed.”

The new bathhouse replaces one dating to the 1930s. Voters approved a bond issue at the ballot to fund most of the work and a citizen group raised the rest.

The pool plans to set aside swim times for children, families and adults, provide swimming lessons, sponsor a swim club and host water Zumba exercises. For more information, call city hall at 503-852-7575.
