Parks and Rec holds registration days
McMinnville Parks and Recreation is currently accepting registration for its Spring Youth Soccer League and its Adult Coed Volleyball League.
The Spring Youth Soccer League is open to boys and girls from kindergarten through sixth grade. Children registered by Wednesday, Feb. 10, are guaranteed a placement on a team; those who register afterward will be placed on a team if room is available. Games are slated to begin March 5; the season runs until April 30.
Interested parties may register online at https://goo.gl/V1k4LY or in person at the McMinnville Community Center, 600 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville. A coaches’ meeting will take place Tuesday, Feb. 23.
Rosters for Spring Adult Coed Volleyball League teams must contain at least three female and three male players. Cost of participation is $180 per team, due at the McMinnville Community Center, 600 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, on or before Saturday, March 5. Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning in late March.

Parks and Rec seeking program sponsors
McMinnville Parks and Recreation has sponsorship opportunities available to businesses or groups interested in sponsoring youth baseball and softball programs.
Approximately 800 players ages 5-13 will participate with Parks and Recreation teams this spring. Opportunities are available to sponsor teams and outfield signage; all information is due by Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Mac baseball program holds youth camp
The McMinnville High School baseball program will hold an instructional youth camp for baseball players in grades 2-8 on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13-14, at McMinnville High School.

Grinich named MIAC Athlete of the Week
Carleton College senior swimmer and 2012 McMinnville High School graduate Stephen Grinich earned the Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week award from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) for his performance at the Luther College Spirit Invite Jan. 16 in Decorah, Iowa.
Grinich set pool records in the men’s 50-yard butterfly (23.44 seconds) and with the Knights’ 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:25.62).
Umbenhower named regional Coach of Year
Dayton High School head softball coach Rob Umbenhower was named a 2015 Section 8 (northwestern states) Coach of the Year by members of the Oregon Athletic Coaches’ Association and the National Federation of State High School Associations Coaches Association.
Umbenhower guided the Pirates to a 27-5 overall record in 2015. Dayton won the OSAA Class 3A state championship, the third in the program’s history, and its fifth consecutive Class 3A West Valley League championship.
