Fire displaces McMinnville family

An early Wednesday morning fire displaced a family of six, two adults and four children, at a McMinnville duplex.

Firefighters responded about 5 a.m. to 230 N.E. Dunn Place to find smoke coming from the south side of the residence. The occupants had evacuated.

They accessed the attic crawl space to extinguish the fire. It started on the outside of the residence, according to Fire Chief Rich Leipfert, who said the adjoining unit was not damaged. A cause has not been determined.

Six pieces of equipment and 20 firefighters responded. The American Red Cross is assisting the family who was renting the residence. The owner is Kit Johnston of rural Dayton.
