Linfield student rescued after fall in Gorge

A Linfield College student was rescued Sunday after falling over an embankment in the Columbia River Gorge.

April Meads, 19, was hiking near Horsetail Falls with her sister. She told Portland television reporters she was letting other hikers pass when she stepped close to the edge of a 100-foot cliff. She grabbed a root and held on as she slid on loose rock.

Passersby pulled her to safety using a makeshift rope they'd made from clothing.

Meads told KPTV she was unijured and very happy to be standing on solid ground again.
