Nathan Ecker
Sports Editor
Nathan Ecker covers sports in Yamhill County through photos and the written word. Outside of his weekly coverage, Nathan also writes "Upon Further Review," a semi-regular column in the sports section where details of the reporter's experience around scholastic athletics are artfully broken down.
He spends the majority of his time outside of work and living and dying with Arizona sports or taking strolls through nature.
After playing baseball his entire life through high school, Nathan stays dedicated to the sport through his fandom for the Arizona Diamondbacks and reports on sports from an athlete's perspective.
Growing up in the small rural desert town of Ajo, Arizona, Nathan approaches every story as an opportunity to learn about a new aspect of the world. Limitless night skies and pastel-like sunsets gave him an appreciation for the natural beauty of the world that he captures in every story. As a child, he would use his mother's digital camera and amateur painting skills to capture landscapes and animals.
Always looking at the bigger picture, Nathan often highlights individuals for the roles they play in the world that we live in.
Nathan graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2024, where he covered high school and youth sports in Flagstaff for the Arizona Daily Sun. He also wrote about and photographed NAU athletics for The Lumberjack, where he spent two years as an assistant sports editor and photographer.
Nathan was involved with NAZ Sports as well, where he produced multimedia content and assisted team members with covering events such as the Super Bowl, PGA Tour Waste Management Open, NASCAR Championship Series, MLB Fall League, NCAA Final Four, Arizona Tip-Off basketball tournament, and Guaranteed Rate Bowl.
