'Legacies of War' pairs vets, students

The exhibit is currently on display at the Linfield Studio Gallery, located in the James Miller Fine Arts Center, and will remain on display through the end of the week. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“Portraits: Legacies of War” represents a collaboration of students in two spring semester courses at Linfield — “Media, War and Culture,” taught by Susan Sivek in the Department of Mass Communication, and “Digital Color Photography,” taught by Cris Moss in the Department of Art and Visual Culture.

To learn firsthand what soldiers experience during war, students were paired with local veterans and charged with writing their stories and taking their photographs. The students applied their skills in journalism and photography, while gaining a deeper understanding of the service provided by veterans and effects of war on individuals and communities.

One of exhibit greatest admirers is Jerry Wilson, the county’s veteran services officer. He said it would be nice if a permanent home could be found for this exhibit.
