Lafayette to mark Fourth with parade, activities

LAFAYETTE — A children’s parade and other activities are planned Saturday, July 4, in celebration of Independence Day.

The annual festival will start at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Lafayette Fire Department.

A bike decorating party will be held at 10:15 a.m. at Wascher Elementary Schools. Kids can decorate their bicycles and wagons in red, white and blue for the parade.

Following a flag ceremony at 10:45, bikes, walkers and floats will roll out at 11 a.m. The parade route goes east from Wascher, then up Grant Street to 12th, where it will make a loop and return to the school, then continue on to Joel Perkins Park. 

Starting at 11:30 a.m., there will be community picnic in the park. Lunch will be provided by Lafayette Community Church. A brass band will provide music.
