Estevan Pacheco, 40, of Independence, was lodged in the Yamhill County Jail on one count each of attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of an electrical stun gun, tear gas or mace. Additional charges are pending. Attempted murder and assault are felonies. His bail was set at $155,000.

McMinnville Police Capt. Tim Symons gave this account of the incident:

About 3 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 900 block of N.E. Second Street regarding a disturbance between Pacheco and another man identified as David Blewett.

The latter was interviewed, additional witnesses were contacted and probable cause was established to arrest Pacheco for using an electric stun device on Blewett. Pacheco had left the area.

About 1 1/2 hours later, officers were dispatched to the same location on another report of a shooting involving the same pair.

Witnesses said Pacheco returned and discharged a handgun multiple times at Blewett, who was struck with one round.

He was transported to a hospital for treatment and was upgraded from critical to stable condition Monday, according to Symons.

Pacheco reportedly fled the area, but investigative work led to his apprehension about 6 a.m. Sunday at his residence in Independence, located in Polk County. Oregon State Police assisted with taking him into custody.

Anyone who may have witnessed either the initial confrontation between the two men and/or the shooting is asked to contact Sgt. Cully Desmond or Sgt. Scott Fessler at the Yamhill Communications Agency non-emergency number, 503-434-6500.

can someone help me understand how a guy who shot somebody's bail is only 155,000K?

Why is this man allowed to have bail at all? Now in the county jail there are people accused of theft, parole violations, assault, with no bail allowed. Our local PD knows this man has a list of people he plans to kill, he has multiple restraining/stalking orders taken out on him. Our community will not be safe if he makes bail.

Perry, Judge that set bail is the same one that issued stalking orders. She knows full well what this person is capable of. Not sure how they even give the option of bail knowing he tried to kill someone and has been threatening to kill people for months and now has a purge list on his facebook page.
The system is far from perfect but this is beyond anything I thought possible.

Steve was protecting his daughter who had been molested by the other man. He would never hurt anyone and has dedicated his whole life to protecting his family and friends. He should be free and the other man should be in jail.

We need to be allowed to protect our families. If anyone decides to touch my daughter.....

The truth will come out and all these liars will be punished. I believe the justice system will help that poor girl who was molested. Steve is a good person and Perry and farmerj need to get their facts straight.

Ruth, have you looked at the stuff this guy posts on facebook? my facts are straight

Regardless of what he is accusing the man he shot of doing, you still don't get to walk around shooting people.
