The pilot and a passenger sustained minor injuries when their fixed-wing, single engine plane crashed Monday night in a field about 1 1/2 miles northeast of the McMinnville Municipal Airport in the area of Lafayette Highway and Leach Lane.
Capt. Chris Ray identified the pilot as Derek Leung and his passenger as Nathan Figueroa. He said they're from the Seattle area.
Leung was piloting a 1948 Ryan Navion, according to the Federal Aviation Administration registry website. It lists Lost Horizon Aero Company LLC of Seattle as the registered owner.
The plane was traveling from Seattle to San Jose, California. It began experiencing electrical problems and was told to land at the McMinnville airport.
The plane lost power and Leung set it down in a field. He and Figueroa suffered facial cuts.
The FFA will investigate the crash.
