WHITESON - The driver in Saturday's fatal crash near Whiteson has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants and criminal negligent homicide, according to the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office.

Jose Manuel Acevedo, 42, of McMinnville was booked into the Yamhill County Jail on $155,000 bail.

He was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier that ran into a ditch near the intersection of Burns and Brown roads at Whiteson, north of Amity, about 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28.

Maria Edith Naranjo Chavez, 48, of McMinnville, was killed in the wreck.

According to Yamhill County Sheriff's Sgt. Chris Ray, Acevedo had been driving northbound on Burns Road when he lost control of the Chevrolet. It rolled over about three times after hitting the ditch.

Deputies said speed and alcohol appear to have contributed to the crash.

They ask that anyone with information about the incident contact Deputy Rebecca Mayer, at 503-434-7506, or send e-mail to mayerb@co.yamhill.co.us.
