Delphian wins third straight shutout

DAYTON - It was another clean sheet Tuesday night for the Dragons as they cruised to a 5-0 win over the Dayton Pirates in their Class 3A/2A/1A Special District 2 match Tuesday evening at Dayton High.

Dragons' forward Colin Koenig found the back of the net just two minutes into the match, and he struck again in the ninth, followed by two first half-goals for brother Nick Koenig. Dayton pushed back through the later stages of the first half and came out aggressive int he second, but the Delphian defense did not break as they preserved the third consecutive shutout for the Dragons.

Colin Koenig finished off a hat trick in the 71st minute, drawing a hard foul in the box and sinking the PK to set the final margin.

Delphian, now just a half game back of Blanchet Catholic for first place in SD2, have allowed one goal or fewer in their last six games, dating back to the last time they faced the Pirates. The Dragons (8-2-1, 7-1-1 SD2) will host Salem Academy on Friday to kick off the school's alumni weekend.
