Data consistently shows that communities without active libraries suffer measurable drops in student reading scores and sometimes the library is their only access to books and early reading readiness. Libraries serve all ages from children simply looking at books for the pictures, adults and people on fixed incomes who can’t afford purchasing or downloading books, and seniors who use libraries to escape loneliness. Some use the library, as was stated in this article, for internet. Please reconsider and encourage the importance of having full access to a community library – it’s important! Furthermore, having a smiling, familiar face to greet us as we come in to pick up a book, who always knows our name, strengthens our community.
