Rachel Thompson/News-Register##David Beutler of McMinnville, a recent guest at First Baptist Church shelter, spoke with photographer Rachel Thompson about a street-level approach to understanding, if not a solution, the problem of the unhoused. “The problem is situationally different from case to case and person to person. And there are some smart people in there. They’ve lived this life for a while. There’s some serious intelligence that gets overlooked sometimes,” Beutler said. “We ain’t all bad people. Situation to situation, everybody’s a little bit different. Let’s take our jackets off, sit down at the table and figure something out. Hippies and bikers learned how to get along together a long time ago. But they learned to coexist. That’s where I get it from, was my mama and my daddy. My mama was a hippie and my daddy was a biker, and they learned to coexist. I got a little of the best of both worlds.”
