If I remember correctly, Hampton did not close the mill on purpose. A storm brought down the smoke stack and replacement costs did not pencil out against the production of the mill and the tough times the lumber industry was facing against the left wing spotted owl conspiracy theories. My brother was working in the mill at the time all of this happened.
