The wall, a project of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 805 in Roseburg and the Umpqua Valley, lists the names of Oregon service members who died in the Vietnam War and honors those lost in later conflicts. American Legion Post 21 of McMinnville brought the wall to Evergreen March 27-29; it travels to communities across the state.

A first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Special Forces, Layton was killed in Vietnam on June 27, 1968, at age 20. In honor of the service members listed on the wall, American Legion members and local Boy Scouts stood guard at the wall over the weekend.
