YCAP thanks the cities and county for supporting the expansion of the motel shelter program to 42 rooms which provide safe shelter for elderly and medically fragile families experiencing homelessness during COVID-19.

This an innovative, creative solution to helping people stay safe during this highly contagious pandemic..so grateful to see the cooperation between the County, Cities, and agencies to help fund this novel approach to a lethal situation...thank you.

If you google - many articles (other than fox) reporting on this:

Another example of our government throwing away our money.

While on the surface this idea seems to gain traction, but once you factor in other items of concern it just seems to go nowhere but down the drain from there.

Why are homeless people being singled out for such a handout as this. Is this a cost prohibitive exercise in futility? Surely Yamhill County can find better ways to address the welfare of it's homeless population.

We've already seen good money wasted in the local mission, where the homeless are the client but are treated like dirt. Rather than renting motel rooms or putting more cash into the money pit called the Mission, why can't Starrett and company come up with an equitable solution that addresses all the applicable issues? Maybe such a project is beyond Starrett's talents (besides anchoring a defunct news program, what exactly are her talents?), so maybe it's time to get some real talent onboard. It's too bad Silas Hallaron-Steiner doesn't have any political motivations.
