Missing student's car found

McMinnville police say they still have Linfield College student Owen Woods officially listed as a missing person, but there is no indication he is in danger.

They revealed Thursday that Woods' car had been located out of state, "a significant distance from Oregon," a few days after he last was seen in the early hours of April 17 in Depoe Bay. Capt. Dennis Marks said they were working with law enforcement agencies on the other end to confirm that the 22-year-old student is OK and encourage him to contact his family.

Adults have a right to travel wherever they like without notifying others, Marks said, so police need to consider his rights as well as his family's wishes to hear from him.

A male body was found in the ocean near Depoe Bay on Tuesday, but authorities say there is no reason to think the discovery is related to Woods' disappearance. They note several people have been reported missing on the Oregon coast this spring, including a man swept out to sea by a wave and a couple of fishermen lost at sea in separate incidents.

The body of a missing woman, Katie Roe, was found Thursday morning in the surf at Depoe Bay. She also disappeared April 17.

Lincoln County Sheriff's Office representatives said there were no obvious signs of foul play.
