Newberg man dies in Highway 99W crash
LAFAYETTE - A Newberg man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash about two miles north of Lafayette on Highway 99W near Stoller Road.
The Oregon State Police gave this account:
About 2 p.m., a 2007 Ford pickup driven by Antonio Sanchez-Guillen, 31, of McMinnville, pulling a dual-axel utility trailer loaded with gravel, was southbound on the highway.
It veered onto the shoulder and then across the highway into the northbound lane and collided with a 2005 Toyota Prius driven by Velda Mitchell, 84, of Newberg.
Velda Mitchell was transported by ground ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center with serious injuries and later transferred to a Portland trauma hospital.
A passenger in the Prius, Richard Mitchell, 85, was transported by Life Flight helicopter to a Portland hospital, where he died.
Sanchez was transported by ground ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.
Highway 99W was shut down for about three hours while the crash was investigated and the scene cleared.
