It's his land. He can do what he wants with it, within the law. He could have been a decent person and given struggling tenants a heads up. The owner sounds like he speaks from privilege. A land owner telling people who live in trailers on his land that he has it tough too is pathetic and shortsighted.

Rouse claims his children are "on Medicare." He was either misquoted, or he doesn't know the difference between Medicare and Medicaid. I am also skeptical of the claims of destitution by people vowing to hire lawyers to preserve their hovels.

Coco...It appears from the article that the owner couldn't give his tenants a "heads up" until he knew from the planning committee that his plans would be approved...sounds reasonable to me.
He will be required to give the lawful time period for his current residents to leave, but he certainly isn't under any obligation to give his tenants life time residency....
Not sure why you think his claim is pathetic or short sighted. If it takes two years for the rents paid to cover the cost of a replacement furnace, then he probably does need to make some changes in the financial arrangements...he should have the opportunity to make money from his investment just like anyone else...The entitlement of the tenants is a bit over the top as far as I'm concerned...
