MHS receives apparent 'swatting' false call; police on scene to assure safe release of students
McMinnville High School on Thursday afternoon received an apparent “swatting,” or false, call about a security threat. School officials put the school on lockdown at around 2:50 p.m. McMinnville Police responded to ensure safe release of students by about 3:30 p.m.
District officials stated that the report was not real and there was no actual threat.
The district sent a message to parents, as well. Students left the building at the regular dismissal time and parents were able to pick them up as usual.
Swatting is a type of false report designed to draw first-responders to a scene. Today’s call came on the heels of a school shooting in Georgia on Wednesday, with two students and two teachers killed, that put people on high alert across the nation.
