Hay truck erupts in flames
Crews from several agencies, including the state Department of Forestry, prevented a hay truck fire from spreading and causing significant damage Monday night.
The truck erupted in flames west of McMinnville on Hill Road near Peavine Road. McMinnville firefighters were first on the scene about 6 p.m. They found the truck fully involved, and some of the hay had fallen off the trailer and into hedge rows on both sides of Hill. Smoke was visible from Highway 18, just to the south.

Assistance from neighboring agencies was immediately requested. In addition to McMinnville crews, Amity, Carlton and Department of Forestry firefighters battled the blaze. Amity covered the McMinnville station.
A strong wind was blowing at the time, but the fire was contained in about 90 minutes. Crews were pulling out about 2 1/2 hours after the blaze was reported, but McMinnville crews were on scene throughout the night to prevent any flareups.
The truck was owned by Brian Turley Farms of Dayton.
