"About 30% of Yamhill County residents were enrolled in Medicaid" Anyone else think the program is being abused?

So glad Starrett is looking out for the well-being of others. She never knows when to say nothing.

For Healthcare costs to taxpayers this Biennium, the Oregon Legislature's record concerning [HB 5025] is abysmal.
SEE TEXT OF [HB 5025] BELOW:
https://olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2025R1/Downloads/MeasureDocument/HB5025/Enrolled
***NOTE: The GENERAL FUND allocation just for the debt service related to the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is [$62,854,807].
*The LOTTERY FUNDS allocation for the 'DEBT SERVICE' to OHA is [$16,513,581].
*The GENERAL FUND is responsible should LOTTERY FUNDS fail. Therefore, [$81,368,318 for Combined Debt Services to the GENERAL FUND is the result].
The TOTAL DEBT is 'no-where' in the TEXT of [HB 5025].
An additional [$5,000,000] is allocated from the GENERAL FUND to OHA for "operational challenges."

Again, democratic leadership uses scare tactics and no facts to back up their inflammatory comments. If they lost the use of fortune telling words like “could”, they wouldn’t be able to play on emotions to garner support. No surprise King disagreed with this bill. Spending money we don’t have on people who don’t truly need it is the mess we are in. Asking people to work for what they are given is called earning, not a new concept. And how eliminating the abuse of a system makes rich people richer, is another giant leap. Bottom line, taking money that is being used fraudulently to make a program better for those who need it, is a good thing.

Two things addressed here, need to change as well. Able bodied college students do not need to be on food stamps-a practuce going on for many, many years. And buying junk food with food stamps should NEVER be allowed. If yo7 are so needy that you are on state assistance to survive, Pepsi and candy is not what you should be buying. This sinking ship needs to be righted even though it may be painful for some.

I always watch the meetings on zoom, and I so look forward to the day when we are no longer subjected to Starrett’s snarky criticisms and blind devotion to the authoritarian take-over of our country. I am grateful to Commissioner King for his attention to the very real concerns of his constituents, and for focusing on the red flags that threaten us. I was disappointed that the zoom meeting did not include video of the vitriolic “virtual” participant who leveled ugly inaccurate accusations at Commissioner King. Did she deliver those “opinions” (asserted as fact) with a straight face? I was not surprised that Commissioner King handled the verbal assault with calm dignity. (Although for a moment it appeared that Chair Johnston intended to move on without allowing for any response, as he often does following one of Starrett’s frequent inappropriate imperial “scoldings.”)
Thank you Commissioner King ~ your representation is valued and appreciated.
p.s. I wonder if "Loretta" would care to share what informs the opinion that folks who don’t need assistance are getting it? Given the Pepsi/candy observation it appears that someone is taking Starrett’s word for it? A bit of research might be in order. For example, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities reports that “while two-thirds of participants are children, elderly, and people with disabilities, most working-age SNAP participants DO work but often in unstable jobs.”

Loretta 'dissed' our Democratic leaders for not using facts. Obviously, she cannot read. To wit:
1) Many economic experts (Loretta is NOT one) state what Wyden and Berkley said above.
2) Starrett uses no facts (no research data) -- she just spits out whatever she feels SHOULD be fact. The woman needs to be voted out of local office and prevented from winning state and federal offices.
Anyway, there is a group that needs assistance and it's the foster care system. Families take in children and they should have supplemental help for food cost. They receive a stipend for clothing and personal items, but not for food (fact: I worked in the 'system' for many years).
Yes, there are abuses. Consider: for every tax law passed, there are multiple ways to get around the law (I worked in a large CPA firm in Chicago's Loop when I was young). Why aren't people upset about that? The upper 1% has gotten away with illegal tax moves for as long as I remember.
There are abuses in every system. It's who we are: mine, mine, mine and screw you.

The administration & their supporters in congress have an obviously conflicting approach to the “fraud & abuse” in government argument . They ( for example) publicize that fraud & abuse is rampant in the social security administration, yet they fail to provide any proof of the claims. And at the same time, they massively cut staffing & funding to the agencies that generally provide oversight and enforcement against fraudulent activities. The cuts to the IRS staff is a perfect example of intentionally allowing those with complex tax returns ( wealthy individuals & businesses) to under report their tax liability with little fear of an audit . I guarantee that the revenue lost at the IRS, by staffing cuts, will dwarf any savings found by eliminating Pepsi & candy bars from SNAP eligibility.

It's been this way for decades and now it's on steroids:
"They made healthcare a commodity, education a debt trap, and housing a speculation market....then they told you that poverty is a personal failing. They privatized survival and called it freedom."
These folks love getting rid of government regulations....all for a dreamy military police state.
A military police state that, ironically.....regulates all of us by using force.
