Seems like risky business to me. Hopefully there has or will be an assessment of environmental clean up costs before this is finalized.

Imagine the NR headlines if "the commissioners" jumped on a industrial manufacturing facility spending over 4 million dollars if they couldn't seem to manage the money they were already responsible for.

This project is exactly the reason the city created the Urban Renewal District. Urban Renewal Districts chug along while properties get redeveloped one at a time, until a project like this comes together. It took several dominos to fall but the biggest one for the Alpine District was RB Rubber. Now, it is unfortunate that we couldn't find them a more suitable place to move within our Industrial district and the loss of jobs is a significant blow.

However, his opportunity may be the biggest Public/Private partnership this community has seen in a long while. This will breathe life into both the Alpine District and into MURAC. With that being said we need to find a developer that has a vision that compliments our community. But if our city is the one that is finding that partner we have a better chance finding a truly great partner.

I commend the mixed use and I might ask that a portion of it gets set aside for workforce housing. Or micro apartments that require less parking being mandated by code.

Now if only the County could find a way to be forward thinking. The amount of sprawl in deteriorating buildings is a complete waste. It is time to look to the next 50 years.

Ohh and Bigfoot, if you wouldn't mind doing the forensic audit of your so called waste that would be great. Cause just spewing the words doesn't solve a damn thing. All of the city meetings are open to the public and our councilors(volunteers by the way) and staff do a tremendous job being exceptionally mindful of how they spend your money.

Stay cool out there and remember to not leave your pets in the heat especially without water.

Would have been a good opportunity for the hotel that wanted to build here. Might not be the most profitable use but is love to see a food pod area created. One with a beer hall, tables, outside seating, and a row of food trucks. Hillsboro just added one. Salem is finishing a second one in West Salem. Newberg has a small one (mo beer hall though).

Well don'tcha think this whole idea was hatched more than a year ago? Premeditation is a word that comes into play. Kinda like the previous mayor "all of a sudden" resigned in midterm to let the current mayor settle into her seat. Happens all the time with judges (and mayors).

Gosh, I sure hope the city was thinking ahead, realizing the RB Rubber site represented an urban renewal opportunity of the highest order in the rapidly redeveloping Alpine District. Planning ahead is the hallmark of savvy management, be it in the public sector or private. You've got to keep your head in the game.
