City council approves hiring procedures for city manager

With longtime city manager Kent Taylor set to retire in November, the city will accept applications for the position until Aug. 28. The city hired Greg Prothman to narrow down candidates and he will present them to the council in September during an executive session that will not be open to the public.

Later in October, citizens will have a chance to interact with finalists at an event before formal interviews take place.

In other business:

* The city council approved a resolution reapproving an Federal Aviation Administration grant to rehabilitate the McMinnville Airport's main runway. The council previously approved a similar grant, but after an FAA review of the grant required a change, the council needed to reapprove the resolution.

* Approved new sewage pre-treatment rules that place on the books what has been practice at the city for the last 10 years. The new rules will bring the city into compliance with EPA regulations, which streamline sewage pre-treatment rules for certain industrial customers.

Mark Davis provided the only comment during the public hearing for the rule change. Davis said although he was not an expert on the subject, they appeared to be enforcable and good for the city.

* Heard presentations from the McMinnville Urban Renewal Agency Committee, the McMinnville Economic Development Partnership and the Housing Authority of Yamhill County.

The McMinnville City Council will meet next on Aug. 26, 2014 at 7 p.m. in Civic Hall.
