Case counts trend upward

Yamhill County has been preparing for a greatly increased allocation of vaccine doses from the state, starting in either late March or early April, but was disappointed again this week, with an allocation of just 1,100 first doses of the Moderna vaccine.

Total Oregon Health Authority distribution was up by 14% this week — but not to Yamhill County. A total of 3,000 doses were sent to the county; 1,800 to primary care doctors, which marks an increase over previous weeks; and 100 doses to pharmacies. The Oregon Health Authority did not release numbers of doses the federal government sent to pharmacies this week; it said it did not receive the information on Friday as it normally does.

“It is certainly disappointing. We are waiting for the ramp up of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine but have not received any information about why it is happening later than we had all hoped,” stated Health and Human Services Director Lindsey Manfrin. “We will continue to vaccinate as quickly as we receive doses and remain prepared for the increase in vaccine whenever that occurs.”

In addition, the county received 1,200 booster doses.

Eligibility also expanded this week; all household members of frontline workers are now eligible for vaccination, along with an greater number of people who have underlying conditions.

To register for notification about when vaccines are available, eligible people may go online to getvaccinated.oregon.gov to register.

New cases have been increasing in Yamhill County, as they have in Oregon and across the nation. On Monday, the county reported 31 new cases from Saturday to Monday, bringing the county to a total of 3,992 to date.

There have been 70 deaths in the county.

Statewide, as of Sunday, there had been 166,882 cases to date, and 2,392 deaths.

Nationally, there have been more than 30.7 million cases, and more than 555,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
