Carlton sewage flows into river
CARLTON — Carlton’s main sewage pump station, adjacent to Wennerberg Park, overflowed into the North Yamhill River several times this week, according to Public Works Director Bryan Burnham. He blamed runoff from last week’s heavy snowfall,
The areas near the site have been marked with signs restricting use, Burnham said. If the warnings are heeded, the overflow poses no threat to human health, he said.
Burnham said overflows occurred Feb. 12, 14, 15, 17 and 19. In addition, the sewage lagoon’s stabilization ponds overflowed on Thursday, Feb. 20, he said.
He said the overflows had been promptly reported to the proper environmental agencies. For more information, he can be reached at 503-852-0068 or 503-852-7575.
