Montgomery, AL's school system has a program that's successful. The city purchased land from a railroad company that was in disuse. Several feet of contaminated soil was removed and replaced with healthy soil. Raised bed structures were built. Inner City kids are bussed to the location to plant seeds, nurture the sprouting plants to maturity, and make a meal from them. For the meal part, a well-known chef from one of the high-end hotels shows them how to make simple things like a salad and dressing. The kids are amazed to learn where their food comes from. Perhaps this is an alternative to our poisoned food chain and all the junk food in the grocery store chains?
