“Conklin’s behavior related to one of the incidents was attributed to a grand mal seizure, according to Pihl, who said he “smoked some pot laced with something” another time, and doesn’t remember anything about his actions.”
Give me a break.
Someone smokes methamphetamine and/or PCP and we are supposed to feel sorry for him? Condone his actions? Give him a pass?
Please.

Now follow through Mr. Conklin! You will be setting an example, to both struggling addicts AND the city!!! You can do it!! GOOD LUCK!!!!

Bull.

The debbie downers of this plan, have (LUCKILY) never loved an addict.
I had the same thoughts about addicts, until someone I loved became an addict. Your thought process changes.

Well as a career criminal drug addict who assaults those who are attempting to assist him, my sympathy bucket runneth empty for Mr Conklin.
He got a sweetheart deal that will only encourage future violent, antisocial behavior.
No consequences equals no need to change in the criminal addicts drug addled brain.

OregonBorn, I get it, his life as a career criminal WITH repercussions (whether they were severe or not, I don't know) didn't work, so we can hope this will.

What magic--loving someone who cares squat for you except for the fact you still possess items he can steal and hock; a master of broken promises; lying with every step taken on his futile, arrogant, egotistical journey into oblivion. You enable someone who, frankly, would trade you in a heartbeat for one ounce of dope. He that lieth down with dogs shall rise up with fleas, or, as the more conventional saying goes: you are known by the company you keep. My personal sympathy bucket also runneth empty because of the hole he kicked in the bottom during one of his manic episodes.

Lulu, its called unconditional love.....perhaps you've heard of it? You see what you want to see. But what I saw, was a lost soul, nothing but emptiness and pure suffering in their eyes. Truly the saddest site I had ever seen. KNOWING that amazing person is still in there, watching them struggle to get off that demon wagon, getting pulled back in, back into that repetitive catch 22. I'm very blessed, the addict I love has been clean for over THREE YEARS!
I'm actually ok with your thoughts on this topic I suppose, because you haven't loved an addict the way I loved an addict. And for that, I'm happy for you. You and I are both blessed in two very different ways.

Meh.
Tell that to the all the victims of Mr Conklin over the past ~ two decades.
It’s his choice, not theirs.
He will continue to victimize others with no thoughts of remorse.
myopinion
Believe it or not OregonBorn, the majority of victims of addicts, would LOVE to see them get clean and sober, and live a productive life.
OregonBorn
Believe whatever you want to believe if it helps you for some reason.
Me, I’m just thinking of Conklins future victims, while you continue to make excuses for predatory criminals with no accountability thanks to our “justice” system.
Career criminals do not deserve this “sentence”. Period.
First, second, heck even third time offenders, fine. Give them an alternative sentence.
Conklin and his ilk should not be released to victimize further. Ever.
Cheers.
Lulu
Somehow I doubt whether he would have done the same for you. And after all that nurturing empathy, solicitude and understanding, don't be surprised if he trades you in for a newer model.

Why can't we send him back where he came from? Question: Our jail rents beds to other Counties. Are their criminals released here?
Drew1951
Stella and others: Send him back to where he came from??? He came from Willamina. Why do people assume all trouble makers are imported? I wish I could be as perfect as those who spew hatred. Do you think Jesus would say these things?
Lulu
"Thou shalt not abhor a Willamina dweller."?
