Wow... shocking.

Homer

Never saw that coming!

Loretta

Is anyone surprised at her no show? Waste of time and money to release only to have to catch them again.

Rds

multiple no-shows and the judge still let her walk knowing she wouldn't show for trial.

Paul Daquilante

Rds . . .

A trial had not been scheduled.

But the woke ideas (cashless bail in this case) always sound so reasonable and compassionate....until reality crashes in.

Lulu

Shades of Charlie Brown and the football.

Joel- The “reality” of cash bail is that it criminalizes poverty and disproportionately affects minorities and people of color. Do you think it’s reasonable and compassionate to lock up innocent people because they don’t have access to money for bail?
Do some homework.

Joel R

Tag, The reality of cashless bail is that in the vast majority of cases it allows criminals to walk free and and not show up for their court date. This disproportionately affects people (future victims) of all economic stations, races, etc. All of us.
Check in with New Yorker's and ask them how it's working out.
It may sound good in the faculty lounge but it's a complete disaster in real life.
Dang, Tag. You used to be fairly moderate. You seem to be really listing to port these days.

tagup

you’re wrong on the facts….

Yes- sometimes criminals can skip out, but I will accept that outcome to allow thousands of innocent people to avoid jail time ( sometimes months) until they can plead their case. Must I remind you that people that can’t make bail haven’t been convicted of anything?

Joel R

Well, I still love ya, Tag. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
Chances are we've had some different life experiences. Maybe you've known an innocent person who was locked up (or treated unfairly in other ways). I've had a close family member that was the victim of a horrible crime.
Real life experiences probably color our views on these kinds of issues as much or more so than logic alone.

Joel- You realize that Mr. / Mrs. Tagup has been annointed as the designated liberal on the NR board, don't you?
