I take issue with their consultant’s statement:
He said many of the meters were 30 years old and, as meters age, they err on the side of under-measuring and never over measure.

I live in Lafayette. I had an old meter. I knew it was measuring incorrectly. Despite multiple requests to have it tested, they never did. Meters were never calibrated.

When the conversation began about testing new meters, I offered to be a test house. They declined.

Surprise, surprise…when the new meter was installed as part of the city-wide project, my average consumption started reading between 100 – 200 cf less every month.

I was being overcharged for water, and sewer – as rates are determined by water usage – for years.

I will never get that money back.

So, maybe using the statement as a budget balancing prospect is not the best way to go.
